丝绸silk之of路road The Silk Road

According to archaeological research, China has been producing silk for about four thousand years.

In the Han Dynasty 汉朝(BC 202-AD 8), a diplomat named Zhang Qian张骞 opened a land trading route from Asia to Europe. This road started in Xi’an西安 China and went through Gansu甘肃, Xinjiang新疆, Western Asia, and ended in the Mediterranean countries.

This route later was named as 丝绸之路—the Silk Road.

According to legend, in the first century, an emperor of Rome wore a gown made of Chinese silk to watch an opera in a theater. Everyone in the theater was amazed by his luxurious gown. From then on, Chinese silk was a popular commodity among the Roman elite.
