鱼米之乡means a and of fish and rice.
It is used to describe a place that is rich in agricultural and fishing products, and the citizens do not need to worry about life’s basic necessities.
In China, the Yangzi River divides the land into two regions: Jiangbei江北 (North of the River) and Jiangnan江南 (South of the River). Jiangnan is a region in the lower Yangtze Valley, where the weather is mild and there is plenty of rain. Many small rivers are scattered over these vast plains, creating an excellent environment fro agriculture and aquiculture. Chinese people refer to Jiangnan as 鱼米之乡.
