冰ice灯lights/lanterns

If you travel to northern China during the winter, you can see a dazzling array of lighted ice sculptures. Local people call these sculptures 冰灯. Ice sculpture is a popular art form in the area. The city of Harbin holds a grand Ice Light Festival every year.

Harbin哈尔滨’s Ice Light Festival originated in early sixteenth century, but it was not until 1985 that the city decided to hold an official Harbin International Ice Festival every year. Since then, the festival has grown into a massive event. Many teams from countries such as Canada, Japan, France, Russia, and South Africa come to the festival to demonstrate their exquisite ice-sculpting skills. The event draws millions of tourists from all over the world. The festival, you can see lighted ice sculptures of all kinds, such as lions, tigers, eagles, dragons, Chinese lanterns, and sometimes European style churches and pavilions. Their colored lights are especially magnificent in the evening.
