亡lose羊sheet补repair牢fold
During the Warring States Period, there was a minister of the Chu State named Zhuang Xin. He admonished the emperor of the Chu State for his self-indulgence. He said that if the emperor continued to sacrifice state business for personal enjoyment, then the country would soon be conquered by other states.
The Emperor was not happy to hear this and considered Zhuang’s words alarmist. Dismayed, Zhuang told the emperor that he could not bear to watch the impending destruction of the Chu state, and so he would have to leave immediately. Five months after Minister Zhuang left Chu, the State Qin attacked. With the state of Chu in dire peril, the emperor of Chu sent for the minister Zhuang to return and help save the country.
Zhuang returned, saying, “it is not too late to mend the fold even after the sheep is lost…”
亡羊补牢is used to indicate that although there are problems, it is not too late to take remedial measures.
