《三打白骨精》is a story from the famous Chinese novel Journey to the West西游记, written in the Ming Dynasty明朝. Journey to the West tells us a story about four monks who went to the Western Heaven西天 (the ancient Chinese Buddhists’ name for India) to acquire Buddhist scriptures.
On their way they encountered many hardships. The four monks who on the pilgrimage were Triptika, who was a master monk, Piggy Zhu猪八戒, Sandy Sha沙僧, and Sun Wukong孙悟空—the Monkey king.
Sun Wukong is the main character of the novel. He had fiery eyes and diamond pupils, which enabled him to discern disguised demons and see through all kinds of tricks.
In the story of 《三打白骨精》，白骨精—the Whiter Bone Demon, wants to capture Triptika and eat his flesh because this could make 白骨精immortal. The White Bone Demon attempted to trap Triptika by first disguising itself as a beautiful girl, later as an old lady, and finally as an old man. Unsuspecting Triptika almost falls into each of the snares set by 白骨精. Fortunately, Monkey Sun is able to see through these snares and comes to protect Triptika and fight with 白骨. In the end, 白骨精is defeated, and the four continue on their journey.
