见see异difference思think迁change
During the Warring States Period, the King of the Qi State asked his Prime Minister Guan Zhong管仲, “How can we make people live and work in peace and contentment?” Guan answered, “First, we should classify people into four categories according to their occupations: scholars, farmers, workers, and merchants. Second, we should have people with same occupation live together, so that they can learn from each other and love their work. They will not often be exposed to new things and so they will not change their jobs too frequently. In this way, everyone can enjoy a good and prosperous life.”
见异思迁means a person’s desire to change his or her work the moment he or she see something different. Now it is also used to describe people who are inconstant and always seek out change when they see something that seems better. This phrase refers to people who lack single hearted devotion to their professions.
