古代的ancient 车carriage 战combat 兵器weapon—殳 shu
The use of the weapon 殳 in chariot combat started in the Pre-Qin Dynasty period.
According to historical records, the 殳 was created in the Shang Dynasty. However, its shape had been lost to history for more than two thousand years.
It was not until the 1978 archaeological discovery in Sui County that the 殳 was revealed to the modem world. The shaft of a 殳 was about three-meters tall, made out of bamboo or wood. A bronze or iron pointed head was mounted at the top of the shaft.
The 殳 was a very popular and effective weapon during the Warring States Period. That period saw near constant warfare as seven states contended for supremacy.
After the Han Dynasty, chariot combat gradually lost its popularity. As such, use of the 殳 was also diminished.
